To hire one or not is an important question for every bride. A wedding planner typically will put together the whole show for you. They either take a percentage of the wedding cost for their fee or an hourly fee. Knowing how much you plan to spend on your wedding will help you decide which type of payment would most work for you. If you plan to pay a percentage of your costs beware the pressure to go over your budget!
A planner can really take the stress out of your wedding. If you have no one to rely on to help you, it may be worth the expense to have a planner. If you have a reliable best friend and an eager mother, you may not need one.
An middle-of-the-road option is to hire a wedding consultant who specializes in the day of the event. Some planners hire themselves out for just a day. So, if you feel like you can plan the whole wedding, but you want to be able to relax and enjoy your day, this can be a great, cheaper option.
If you choose to hire either type of planner, be sure to ask questions! Insist on seeing references. Ask about payment. Ask about how long she has been doing this and if she belongs to a professional association. Finally, tell the planner your budget and ask if she can accomplish what you want with that amount.
Be smart about a wedding planner and it could be the best decision you make.
