Flowers at a wedding can be crucial. They can help to set the tone or carry out the theme for the event. But, it’s easy to go overboard. You can quickly spend too much money on flowers. Here are some things to keep in mind.

Make sure you know what the color scheme for the wedding will be and how you want the atmosphere to feel. Flowers can look formal or laid-back. They can dominate the reception, or just be an accent. You need to know what you want before you start looking.

            Everyone knows that June is wedding month.  If you don’t get married in June, you probably will choose May, July, August, or September.  But, how about a winter wedding?  Here are my reasons you should consider this unorthodox option.

1.  Cost.  It seems as if at the mention of the word wedding, the price of any service doubles.  The industry can kill you with overpriced items.  Vendors are less busy in the winter and will charge significantly less.

2.  Accessories.  You can wear pretty white gloves or a faux fur wrap.

Many girls envision their weddings from an early age.  The most important part?  The dress.  Everyone wants to look fabulous on their wedding day.  When I got engaged, shopping for the dress was the first item I tackled on my overwhelming list of things to do.  Why?  Because the dress is the fun part.

The first thing to keep in mind is to keep an open mind.  If you have a very exact image in your head of what your dress should be, you may be disappointed.  Go shopping with the “I’ll know it when I see it” attitude.

So choosing the person or people who create the soundtrack for one of the biggest moments in your life is an important decision. Music can make or break a party, and you need to find performers who understand that, whether they are DJs or bandleaders.

Nowadays, people tend to get married a little bit older, with a more important and well-controlled budget. On the wedding night, the loss of virginity is no longer the turning point of their first night as a married couple. On this special night where everything, from A to Z, has been planned for months, if not years, women should aim for a unique and memorable set-up. Earlier this year, I was asked to design an eco-friendly wedding for NBC’s popular daytime drama, Days of Our Lives (Sami and Lucas’ “green” wedding.) I used locally grown and environmentally friendly flowers including California roses and potted flowering plants. By using locally grown flowers, the pollution created in transport along with the pesticides used to treat the flowers, were significantly cut down. In keeping with the eco-friendly theme, the potted plants used in the ceremony were transferred to the reception hall and immediately planted afterwards. This is not only eco-friendly but cost-effective and you can do it too.

Let’s face it. It’s in our nature, as women, to try and make everyone happy. And even at our own wedding, we want the day to be as perfect as possible for everyone involved. On the very first day you begin your wedding planning, you need to remind yourself that trying to please your fiancé, your mother, his mother, your bridesmaids and everyone else 100% of the time is impossible. Make a promise to yourself that you accept this ahead of time and will not drive yourself crazy trying to please everyone.
