This is meant to be a brief guide on the required duties for each of the attendants in your wedding. This is not meant to be an all-inclusive list, and the bride and groom are allowed to alter the duties for each attendant however needed to suit the particular wedding.
The Maid or Matron of Honor – The Maid of Honor is generally required to take care of her own gown and wedding accessories. She is responsible for arranging for the bridal shower and generally acts as the host. She is also responsible for keeping tract of shower and wedding gifts. The Maid of Honor generally serves as the official witness for the wedding. The Maid of Honor is also a great source for calming when the Bride is nervous, and is also responsible for rearranging the train, holding the bride’s bouquet during the ceremony, and assisting the bride in changing out of her wedding gown. The maid of honor is expected to attend the rehearsal, and will be seated as a member of the receiving line at the head table. The Maid of Honor is also commonly partially responsible for the reception room’s decorations.
The Bridesmaids – The Bridesmaids are traditionally responsible for their own gowns. They are responsible for assisting with the planning of the bridal shower, and typically band together to put together favors for the reception. The Bridesmaids are also generally responsible for planning the rice, rose petal or confetti cups so that guests can throw things during the getaway. In most weddings, the Bridesmaids are also responsible for decorating the getaway car. Bridesmaids attend the rehearsal, assist with decorating the reception room, and are seated at the head table as members of the receiving line.
The Best Man – The best man is generally responsible for his own tuxedo. He is responsible for paying vendors and the officiant, and is required to ensure that the groom arrives in time. The Best Man gives a toast both at the ceremony and the reception, and is in charge of keeping important things like the honeymoon tickets, wedding license and rings in a safe place. The Best Man plans for the exit transportation for the getaway and the honeymoon. The Best Man attends the rehearsal, and is seated at the head table as a member of the receiving line.
The Groomsmen – The Groomsmen are responsible for assisting the Best Man with any of his duties as needed. Groomsmen are required to attend the wedding rehearsal, and during the reception they are seated at the head table as members of the receiving line. The Groomsmen are also typically responsible for helping to decorate the reception room prior to the wedding.
