The amazing wedding book, Bridal Bargains, by Denise and Alan Fields offers so many suggestions for cutting the costs of your wedding. If you are planning your special day and have never seen this book, you must go buy it, or better yet, save money and check it out at the library. The book gave me some ideas about lovely yet inexpensive flowers for bouquets and table arrangements.

1. Gerbera daisies. These daisies are stunning. They come in the most rich and saturated pinks, reds, oranges, and yellows.

2. Alstroemeria. Everyone knows what this common bouquet flower is, even if you don’t recognize the name. Alstroemeria is a small lily that comes in many colors and is often used to fill out flower arrangements.

3. Carnations. Some people may feel these look cheap, but if you stick to the natural flowers, not the dyed ones, and use just a few to fill up an arrangement, they can make a classy addition.

4. Chrysanthemums. Also known simply as mums, these flowers are inexpensive and available in many colors. The flowers are large and can fill up space well. They also come in different shapes, like the spidery, Fuji mum.

5. Gladiolus. These long stalks contain several blooms each and add a nice dimension of height to arrangements.

6. Heather, Stattice, Baby’s Breath, and Queen Anne’s Lace. Florists use these filler flowers all the time in arrangements. They are small, delicate, take up space and most of them smell quite nice as well.
